Aashna Pujara’s work delves into their interest of pushing boundaries of the mediums that they work with, and bending rules related to technicalities of the medium. Experimentation and investigation of the processes is an integral part of their work whether that be printmaking, or textiles. In their current practice, Aashna is exploring the concept of home past its structural form. About how changes in the physical environment and surroundings can affect sentient bodies, causing a disruption of routine, anxieties, and a rigid feeling of being unstable. This theme is expanded through tracing patterns of their familial history and the land their ancestors have resided on and moved through. Through material research of their mediums of choice with the use of elements directly from Earth (foraged responsibly), Aashna often depicts their ideas through worlds of natural imagery. The textile work is often inspired from their prints, as both convey similar ideas in different forms. Text is often an important component of the pieces and Aashna uses their mother tongue Gujarati in some of their work, in an effort to deconstruct their brain from continuously thinking in English. The works offer an introspective view into the conveyance of the suggested themes.
